Thomson Safaris Runs for the Elephants

Written by Thomson Safaris

We’re proud to announce Thomson Safaris along with the Global March for Elephants and Rhinos is hosting a 5k run to raise funds and awareness for the challenges elephants face around the world.

The run (or walk) will start at 9 a.m. on Sunday, September 30th, at Reilly Memorial Rink, 355 Chestnut Hill Ave., Brighton, MA.

We’d love for all our friends to register and run or even sign up as virtual runners to donate to this incredibly important cause.

Proceeds go to the Tennessee Elephant Sanctuary and its international partners. This sanctuary is devoted to elephants that have been retired from zoos and circuses, giving them 2,700 acres of protected land to live naturally as a herd.

Why Do Elephants Need Our Help?

Elephants are under constant threat from habitat loss, human encroachment and poaching. They’re particularly vulnerable because their ivory is a valuable black-market commodity, and their long reproduction cycles make for slower population growth.

Some 5 to 10 million elephants called Africa home in the 1930s. Today, roughly 400,000 remain.

We fight for this intelligent, gentle species every day because it’s the right thing to do, and it’s absolutely critical. Whether that means speaking out against relaxed elephant trophy regulations nationally, speaking up for ivory bans locally or hosting a run to raise funds for their wellbeing, we’re happy to keep up the effort.

We’d love for you to join us.
