Father and son write poem about Kilimanjaro and safari adventure
They were father and son
They shared a passion for hiking
They decided to climb Kilimanjaro
And make their bond more striking
They chose the Grand Traverse Route
The longest and most scenic
They booked with Thomson Safaris
The best and most authentic
They flew to Tanzania in July
The best time of the year
They met their guide and crew
And felt a thrill and a cheer
They started from the west side
And walked through the forest and moorland
They saw elephants and buffaloes
And flowers and grassland
Photos from safari in Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater following Kilimanjaro trek
They crossed the Shira Plateau
And reached the Shira Cathedral
They saw the giant lobelias
And the volcanic pedestal
They followed the southern circuit
And climbed the Lava Tower
They descended to the Barranco Camp
And saw the sunset shower
They tackled the Barranco Wall
And reached the Karanga Camp
They rested and acclimatized
And felt their muscles cramp
They hiked to the Barafu Camp
And prepared for the summit night
They ate and drank and slept
And hoped for a clear sight
They woke up in early morning
And put on their layers and gloves
They started their final climb
And pushed their limits and loves
They reached Stella Point
And saw the glaciers and the dusk
They continued to Uhuru Peak
And felt a joy and a yawn
They made it to the highest point
They hugged, groaned and laughed
They took pictures and videos
And signed the book and the craft
They descended to the Mweka Camp
And then to the Mweka Gate
They got their certificates and medals
And thanked their guide and mate
They had an epic journey
They had a story to tell
They had done it together
They were Father and Son
