DAY 1
Arusha to Mahale
Your flight carries you west to Mahale Mountains National Park, followed by a scenic boat transfer across Lake Tanganyika to your camp. With no roads or vehicles, Mahale feels untouched and remarkably peaceful, its forested slopes rising straight from the lake. Settle in and take in the setting of this remote wilderness.
DAY 2
Mahale Mountains National Park
Chimpanzee Trek
Set out on your first chimpanzee trek, hiking forested slopes in search of one of Mahale’s many chimp communities. Trekking conditions and timing vary, but the reward is the chance to observe chimps up close as they feed, groom, and interact in their natural habitat.
Enjoy Downtime at Camp
When you return from your trek enjoy the evening back at camp, where hippos, antelope, and birdlife are often visible along the lakeshore.

DAy 3
Mahale Mountains National Park
Second Chimpanzee Trek
Return to the forest for a second chimp trek, following your guide through bamboo and dense rainforest to locate the chimps. Once found, spend up to one hour in their presence. The remainder of the day is yours to relax—walk along the beach, swim in the lake, or sail on the camp’s private dhow beneath the Mahale peaks.

Depart from Mahale
Say goodbye to Mahale as you transfer by boat back to the airstrip for your flight home.
