For the Cody family, a recent safari transcended mere vacation; it blossomed into an unforgettable journey woven through three generations, each thread bringing unique perspectives and cherished memories.
At the heart of their adventure was Rose, Thorn, and Bud, a nightly tradition that transformed their excursion into a tapestry of experiences. When 6-year-old Sunny, the youngest family member, suggested this game she had played at home, it seemed a simple way to reflect on their day. Instead, it became the soul of their safari, enriching their reflections and amplifying their connections.

For the children, daily malaria pills felt like an uphill battle, and the inevitable moments of “poo everywhere” during bush walks provoked giggles and groans. Safely tucked away in her tent, Vivienne’s thorn arose nonetheless when a buffalo wandered into their camp, his snorts piercing the night’s stillness — a thrilling reminder of being immersed in the wilderness.
The Parents
Huntley voiced her concerns about whether the kids would grasp the significance of their safari.
“The days were long and bumpy, and with Sunny being so young, I worried. But the guides skillfully broke up the day with engaging stops and shared knowledge, keeping them enchanted.”
Grandma & Grandpa
Joel’s worry centered on her son-in-law and daughter-in-law, unsure how they would feel spending so much time with extended family. Thankfully, those concerns vanished amidst laughter and adventure, forging bonds and shared joy throughout their journey.

For Vivienne, the emotional farewell was unexpected; “I didn’t realize it would be so hard to say goodbye to our guides and our new friends!”

For Joel and her husband, the journey was a multifaceted gift, enriching not only their understanding of wildlife and local cultures but also reinforcing invaluable family ties.
“It was the greatest gift we could offer one another.”
The Lasting Impact of a Family Safari
A family safari transcends mere wildlife observation; it embodies shared time, a rhythmic connection to one another, and a deeper bond with the natural world. It is a voyage marked by awe, laughter, and lasting memories that linger long after returning home.
For the Cody family, their safari unveiled new dimensions of each other, opened doors to joyful surprises, and fostered profound connections amid Tanzania’s wild beauty. The blend of roses and thorns enriched their adventure — a journey that deepened their ties, one treasured moment at a time.
